What are they?
Many people will suffer from headaches at some point in their lives, in fact that number is around 10 million in the UK.
There are different types of headaches with different symptoms, they can be migraine, tension type
or cluster in nature, and whilst some headaches can be very serious, most are not.
The causes of headaches are countless; it can be due to tightness of neck muscles and spinal joints,
dehydration, drug or medication reactions, blood sugar levels, stress or even just fatigue.
Headaches can present in many different ways and may affect levels of concentration,
energy and even activities of daily living. Some people only experience pain in one part of their head
or behind their eyes, some people experience a pounding or thumping sensation
inside their whole head, and some people even experience nausea, or alteration to vision
such as blurring or flashing lights.
One of the most common types of headache, and something we see a lot is cervicogenic headache.
This is a headache arising from dysfunction of the spinal joints and muscles of the head and neck,
causing irritation and pain commonly travelling from the base of the skull
right up to the temples and around the eyes.
